About the Role

Head of Risk – Full Time
This is a genuine enterprise leadership opportunity to shape how risk is understood, embedded and leveraged across a large, purpose-driven organisation.

We’re looking for a Head of Risk who can bring both strategic thinking and hands-on delivery, someone who knows how to design frameworks, but more importantly, how to make them work in practice.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Chief Governance Officer, you will lead the development, implementation and ongoing uplift of DOSCEL’s enterprise risk framework and systems.This is a highly visible role, partnering closely with the Executive, Board Committees and key stakeholders across the organisation to embed a consistent, practical and forward-looking approach to risk.
You will take ownership of:
- Enterprise Risk Framework: Designing and embedding a fit-for-purpose risk framework, including risk appetite, governance structures, policies, procedures and controls.
- Risk Systems & Reporting: Leading the implementation and optimisation of a centralised risk and compliance system, ensuring meaningful, actionable reporting to Executive and Board Committees.
- Risk Culture: Driving a proactive, organisation-wide risk culture through education, engagement and practical support – shifting risk from a “check-the-box” activity to a value-add capability.
- Business Continuity & Emergency Management: Strengthening organisational resilience through robust business continuity planning, crisis preparedness and incident management frameworks.
- Assurance & Audit: Designing and coordinating an internal audit program aligned to the organisation’s strategic risk profile, and ensuring audit actions are effectively tracked and delivered.
- Risk Advisory: Acting as a trusted advisor to leaders, providing pragmatic, commercially sound guidance on governance, risk and compliance matters.
You’ll work cross-functionally across areas such as WHS, privacy, child safety, compliance and regulatory obligations, ensuring risk is consistently understood and managed across the organisation.

- Strong engagement from leaders, with risk actively considered in decision-making
- High-quality reporting and insights that support Executive and Board oversight

About you
You’re a confident, credible leader who can operate at both a strategic and operational level. You bring structure and discipline, but you also know how to keep things practical and usable.
You will bring:
- Proven experience in enterprise risk, governance, compliance and/or internal audit, ideally within a large or complex organisation.
- A strong understanding of risk frameworks, risk appetite, controls, assurance and reporting.
- Experience implementing or uplifting risk and compliance systems.
- Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders, including Executive and Board-level engagement.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex risk concepts into clear, actionable insights.
- A hands-on, solutions-focused approach, with the ability to balance strategy with execution.
- Experience working across regulated environments (education, healthcare, not-for-profit or similar) will be highly regarded.
